Church

If our churches were full of people who followed the teachings of Jesus…

Hello

I’ve been thinking about how wonderful it would be if our churches were full of people who followed the teachings of Jesus. Of course, I realise that not one of us fully follow his teachings, and probably never will while we live as mortal beings in this troubled world, so no such church can exist at this time. But I think it’s worth thinking about what such a church would be like.It might help us think and pray about the churches we belong to now and how we might encourage each other to follow the teachings of Jesus in our communities.

So, here we go. If our churches were full of people who followed the teachings of Jesus, then our churches would be full of people who:

  • Loved our loving, heavenly Father.
  • Didn’t do things to impress other people.
  • Were humble.
  • Didn’t wonder about other people.
  • Worshiped our loving Father in spirit and in truth.
  • Trusted our loving Father.
  • Didn’t worry.
  • Didn’t put their trust in earthly treasures.
  • Loved others.
  • Treated others the way they would like to be treated themselves.
  • Prayed for anyone who persecuted them.
  • Talked to (not about) anyone who had offended them.
  • Talked to anyone who they had offended.
  • Were merciful.
  • Didn’t judge others.
  • Didn’t condemn others.
  • Served others.
  • Forgave others.
  • Spoke in such a way that their word could be relied on.
  • Encouraged others to obey Jesus’ teachings.

(If you want biblical references for these teachings, you will find them in the article “What does Jesus want his followers to do?”, link below.)

May our loving, heavenly Father bless us, strengthen us, and keep us safe as we learn to obey his son’s commands.

Jesus is Lord.
