Hello.
I don’t know if “Regressive Christianity” is a thing, but I think it should be.
You’ve probably heard about “Progressive Christianity”. According to Wikipedia, Progressive Christianity is “characterized by a willingness to question tradition, acceptance of human diversity, a strong emphasis on social justice and care for the poor and the oppressed, and environmental stewardship of the earth.” I don’t disagree with any of that, but I don’t think these things are new or progressive. They sound a lot like the teachings of Jesus to me.
So, why do I like the idea of “Regressive” Christianity? To regress is to “return to a former state” (Oxford English Dictionary), and I reckon the state we need to return to is when Jesus had completed his work on this planet, but before we started adding human traditions, doctrines, rituals and rules to his teachings.
Join the movement! Become a Regressive Christian today! Spread the word!
